Theo Moore II
Theo Moore II is a writer, historian, and documentarian living in Alabama. He specializes in Southern and African American history dating back to the 1800s, abolition, Jim Crow, and Civil Rights era. Theo currently serves on the African American Heritage Coordinator/Black Heritage Council Coordinator with the Alabama Historical Commission and is the founder of the 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, Hiztorical Visions Productions – where he creates historical short-film documentaries highlighting the untold-but-inspiring history of African Americans in the South.
Theo’s enthusiasm for the field began with his 9th grade history teacher who had a special way of connecting with students he knew needed to a different approach to learning U.S. History. HE “He didn’t teach everybody the same way. He understood that his students came from the Section-A housing and the projects, that are in situations where they basically raising themselves. His approach was basically connecting with us and saying ‘Hey, I see you. I see what you’re going through.’ He kept it real with us and let us know our ancestral history and how it is connected to the present African American experience.
“That approach was motivational when you hear the bravery of African Americans as they were faced with violence, but still was determined to strive for human rights. I believe it is my purpose to contribute to the mission of preserving this history and educating others through the arts.
